Experts say it’s a lotMore than 100 years ago, a Russian physician named Nikolai Krivov died while on a trip to the U.S. to treat his wife, his two sons and his daughter.
Krivov had the first documented case of hemorrhagic stroke and died on May 25, 1917.
His wife was found dead in the family’s hotel room in San Francisco, California, less than a month later.
The cause of death was complications from a pulmonary embolism.
Doctors in Russia thought Krivova’s death was a natural death, and they concluded that Kriv was suffering from cerebral hemorrhage.
They treated Krivow in the hospital, and he was declared brain dead.
His son, Dmitriy, died a few months later.
It wasn’t until decades later, in the 1920s, that doctors in Russia were able to confirm Kriviv’s stroke.
That led to an outpouring of concern and support for Krivovic, and for Kravov’s family.
He was declared a saint and honored with a statue outside the Russian Orthodox Church.
